William McIlvanney Campus

Project Title: William McIlvanney Campus
Client: East Ayrshire Council
Main Contractor: Kier
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Completed: 2018
Brief Overview of Project:
This Archical Norr designed super-campus provides a new learning environment for around 2,000 school pupils from in and around the Kilmarnock area. Working in conjunction with other façade contractors, Lesterose were charged with delivering the sprawling facing brick elevations comprising of towering narrow piers, projecting Flemish bond panels, soldier courses and varying radius work. Our package also included a considerable quantity of acoustic and fairfaced blockwork partitions – all built with Lesterose’s trademark quality.
Challenges:
One of the most imposing challenges faced by our project management team, was working closely with Kier and the project design team to facilitate several detail changes and interface gaps to suit demanding programme requirements. The hollow acoustic block presented concerns with wall tie fixing which was addressed through infilling voids and undertaking regular pull-out tests to verify suitability of fixings. The package scope also included a considerable amount of envelope scaffolding which Lesterose coordinated seamlessly with other envelope operations.
